About Marcus Brightmore
"Marcus Brightmore was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, a city where colour is not a choice, it is a way of life. Since the age of ten, he has painted and drawn, driven by a need to express what he feels before he even understands what he sees. Holding a degree in Art and Photography from UNESA, where he received academic distinctions, he has built a career of over 30 years that combines technique, sensitivity, and an unmistakable visual identity.
Surfing entered his life as a child on the beaches of Rio de Janeiro and never left the waves of Brazil to the Australian coast, the ocean has always been his territory and his greatest inspiration.
When he arrived in Australia, Marcus found a second home. But it was an encounter with artists from an Aboriginal tribe that profoundly changed the way he sees art. He witnessed them painting with emotion and history; that technique was not the starting point, but feeling was. That discovery confirmed what he had always sensed: painting is, above all, an act of truth.
That same conviction led him to a mission that goes beyond his own canvases, teaching people, especially mature women, to rediscover painting as a way to reconnect with their own creativity. For Marcus, art is not a privilege of the few; it is a language that everyone carries within them, waiting to be awakened.
Today, Marcus develops authorial series, participates in exhibitions across Brazil, Australia, and internationally, and continues to expand a body of work where colour, movement, and truth are inseparable."
